2. Machined materials

2.1 Classification

There are many different types of machined material, which can be classified into two main families (see table 1 ).

  • Non-ferrous metals

    The most common are :

    • copper and its alloys such as brass and bronze;

    • aluminum and its alloys ;

    • magnesium.

  • Ferrous metals

    This family includes all alloys whose main constituent is iron:
