9. Conclusion
Cutting conditions are generally determined on the basis of initial information (catalogs, abacuses, generic formulas), without taking into account the actual dynamics of the tool-workpiece-machine system in use. Thus, in most companies, the programmer generically selects the rotation speed and tooth feed rate according to his or her estimate of tool and machine capacities. The set-up engineer then fine-tunes the machining parameters during the first machining run, based on visual and acoustic observations, whether or not tolerances have been respected, any tool degradation observed, etc.
