History of MAG welding

MIG – MAG welding processes were developed during the Second World War, in particular to support the U.S. war effort following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Both processes were used to build warships, replacing the much longer riveting process. The MAG process (also known as Gas Metal Arc Welding, GMAW (cf. article by Roland Cazes [B 7 730] ) was designed to reduce the cost of welding thick materials.
