6.1 Railways

It's a heavy industry that hasn't yet paid much attention to weight, and therefore uses almost exclusively traditional mechanical and metal construction techniques.

Since 1985-1990, however, more modern adhesive bonding techniques have been introduced:

  • floors for double-decker commuter trains, regional express trains, partitions and floors for trans-Manche shuttles made of 4 mm-thick aluminum sheet sandwiches glued to aluminum honeycombs, bonded with epoxy films curing in 30 min at 150°C;

  • roof pavilions bonded to the body using two-component, cold-curing epoxy adhesives;

  • TGV honeycomb sandwich doors (for motorized rapid opening) ;...
