2. Spot welding

2.1 Principle

Spot welding is a discontinuous, overlapping joining process. It is applied to sheet metal assemblies in mild, alloy, stainless and aluminum steels, etc. (see article Welding and metallurgical weldability of metals [M 715] ), with thicknesses generally ranging from 0.5 to 10 mm.
