6. Health and safety
The coated-electrode arc welding process is a manufacturing process that generates a large number of risks for the operator and his environment.
The first risk is electrical. In fact, this process uses electricity and an electric arc as an energy vector to produce metal fusion. Of all arc welding processes, this is one of the most dangerous in terms of electrification, because as soon as the equipment is switched on, a current flows through the torch and possibly the electrode, at a voltage of around 100 volts (no-load voltage). What's more, the equipment is connected to the distribution network.
It is therefore essential to work safely, with equipment in good condition (power source, cable, torch, etc.), and to ground the welding generator and the parts to be assembled. Welders must wear dry gloves and insulating safety shoes, and have...
