6. Environment and toxicity

In order to take appropriate measures to limit the risks associated with nanomaterials, we need to look at the vectors of contamination and their consequences for health. There are three main types of contact with these compounds, in decreasing order of importance: the respiratory route, the digestive route and the cutaneous route. When nanoparticles are inhaled, they are then either exhaled or deposited in the respiratory tract at different levels, as described in figure 11 from a theoretical point of view.
