3. Generation IV systems, potential and technological challenges

In this section, we present the essential features of the six systems selected by the Generation IV Forum, their technological basis and the challenges that R&D will have to overcome to demonstrate their feasibility and confirm the performance that justified their selection.

These characteristics, summarized in table 2 , will be refined as feasibility and optimization studies progress.

3.1 Sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR)

The SFR is a fast neutron system capable of regenerating its fuel (with a conversion factor greater than unity) and recycling it completely (plutonium, uranium and minor actinides)
