3. Semi-numerical methods SN

Numerous methods have been used, starting with complex mathematical developments, to achieve a numerical calculation compatible with the power of the first computers: method of moments, spherical harmonics, Fourier transform, eigenfunctions, etc.

Current semi-numerical methods (in one, two or three spatial dimensions) proceed as follows: the energy domain is partitioned into groups, and the multi-group transport equation is solved for neutrons, photons and coupled neutron-gamma problems. The angular flux per unit solid angle φ g,i,d in group g is discretized into a spatial (index i ) and angular (index d ) mesh.
