Asia and Europe are heavily dependent on imports of fossil fuels, oil and gas.

Asia (figure 11 ) consumes 35 million barrels per day of oil and produces just 7 million barrels per day. China, India and Japan are by far the world's biggest oil importers. Japan and China are also the world's biggest importers of natural gas.
