There are many prospects in this sector for achieving the best possible energy performance from our installations.

For the malthouse, energy-saving actions will be more specifically linked to the process:

  • the installation of a triple kiln with recycling of drying air rather than a double kiln;

  • use of a fluidized bed for drying rather than a fixed bed, to reduce energy consumption (approx. 15% reduction; fluidized bed drying improves friability, diastatic power and color, but PDMS content increases);

  • the use of superheated steam drying for the first drying stage;

  • the use of microwaves to complete the drying process and extract the bound water (for 1 t of malt: going from 8 to 4% Hr requires the evaporation of 36 kg...
