4. ATR pricing on the French natural gas network

We'll look at transmission and distribution tariffs in turn. In both cases, tariffs are set by the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE). It's important to remember that the gas transmission network in France is less closely meshed than that of electricity; it's a tree-like network onto which distribution networks are grafted, and not all French people are connected to the network (11.18 million customers compared with over 33 million for electricity). Some large customers are connected directly to the transmission network (GRTgaz or Teréga), while the majority are connected to local distribution networks.
