8. Conclusion

Wind is abundant at sea, offering a vast energy resource that can be harnessed by wind turbines installed on large expanses of sea.

Installing wind turbines offshore is much more complicated than on land, and many factors contribute to making this source of electricity more expensive than other forms of energy. Despite this, the current political will to promote renewable energies is inexorably leading to an interest in offshore wind power, as the resource is accessible and abundant.

Offshore wind power is developing rapidly in Northern Europe. The potential is on the order of 40,000 MW of capacity, an annual production of 148 TWh, or 4% of European consumption
