1. Classification

Although any classification is arbitrary, it is nevertheless useful insofar as it enables us to find common features in equipment that, at first glance, seems very different.

We propose here four classifications, according to :

  • product handling: continuous or batch furnaces;

  • the heating process: direct or indirect ;

  • temperature level ;

  • fuel.

1.1 Continuous and batch furnaces
