3. Ergonomic lighting requirements

Good lighting creates a visual environment that allows people to :

  • to see, be seen, communicate and move around safely;

  • perform visual tasks efficiently and accurately without causing visual discomfort or fatigue.

AFNOR standard NF X35-103 – Ergonomic principles applicable to workplace lighting describes the principles and an ergonomic method for defining performance and visual comfort elements with the following objectives:

  • avoiding and assessing workplace risks ;

  • adapting work to people by using lighting methods and technologies under satisfactory conditions of prevention and protection;
