9. Conical and spherical structures

9.1 Turrets

Turrets are pointed roofs with a circular or polygonal base, topped by a roofing system known as a "suite". The top is topped with an ornament or a simple metal hood (figure 30 ).

Portions of the turret are also called apses (figure 31 ).
