5. Calculation basis
5.1 Basic requirements
Where mechanical resistance to fire is required, structures must be designed and built in such a way that they maintain their load-bearing function during the appropriate fire exposure.
If fire insulation is required, the elements forming the boundaries of the fire compartment, including assemblies, must be designed and constructed to maintain their separating function for the required duration of fire exposure.
This should include, if necessary, the assurance of :
Non-rupture corresponding to structural integrity ;
non-ruined insulation;
limiting thermal radiation from the unexposed side.
