2.1 Scope of application
The new layer of concrete is usually poured directly or applied as shotcrete. Its function is to increase the area of the flexed sections of the concrete element (by increasing the areas resistant to compression and tension under bending stresses) depending on the application and implementation of this additional layer of concrete.
Note that before laying this new concrete covering, the surface to be bonded to the old concrete element must be prepared using appropriate methods and pre-moistened to ensure proper installation (see following chapters for more details).
