4. Assumptions for sizing the recovery area

4.1 Fundamental considerations

Structural elements made of reinforced concrete or prestressed concrete reinforced with a concrete overlay at least 40 mm thick (NF EN 1992-4 (2018), or at least 60 mm for bridge structures, may be designed as "monolithic" elements if the shear forces at the interface between the new concrete and the existing concrete are limited, i.e., if there is continuity of deformation over the height of the section.
