1.1 Dense silico-calcareous

A mixture of silica and lime is generally not a hydraulic binder at room temperature (the combination only occurs if the silica is vitreous and pozzolanic), but this is not the case in the presence of pressurized steam.

In producer countries, especially in Russia and Germany, the trend is towards larger-than-standard brick materials that can be reinforced, similar to prefabricated concrete elements or clay bricks and blocks.

There are around 130 factories in Germany, mainly located in the west of the country.
