8. Conclusion

STERUs are subject to legislative requirements and practices designed to ensure that treated water meets strict environmental standards before discharge into the natural environment. These standards include various parameters such as TSS, BOD 5 , COD, and nitrogen and phosphorus levels.

STERU design requires a multi-dimensional approach, including a combination of pre-treatment, primary, secondary, tertiary or complementary treatment processes, depending on the size of the agglomeration and the sensitivity of the receiving environment.
