7. Surface coatings

  • The NFP 98-160 standard defines "wearing course" as "an in-place wearing course consisting of successively applied layers of binder and aggregate", the structure of which is defined by "the number and arrangement of the layers of binder and aggregate, on the one hand, and the aggregate class(es) of the layers of aggregate, on the other hand".

    The technique of surface dressing is an old one, but it is still the most widely used for surface maintenance on low and medium traffic networks, and is still evolving. Surface dressing is a low-cost way of regenerating the surface characteristics of worn pavements and improving their waterproofing.
