1. Terminology
Orifice – Orifice in an air supply or smoke exhaust duct normally closed by a damper.
Airflow coefficient – Ratio between the actual flow rate, measured under specific conditions, and the theoretical flow rate of the outlet (Cv). This coefficient takes into account impediments in the outlet such as controls, louvers, cross-members, etc., as well as the effect of side winds.
Smoke exhaust – Smoke and heat exhaust device integrated into a construction element separating the inside of the building from the outside. This construction element has an angle greater than or equal to 30° to the vertical.
