 INTRODUCTION

The fire safety regulations (articles DF) of June 25 1980 [TBA 3 004] define the purpose, principles and obligations of smoke ventilation in public-access buildings (ERP).

These provisions are specified, where applicable, by special provisions specific to each type of establishment. The purpose of this instruction is to set out the rules for the implementation of smoke extraction systems, by describing solutions which ensure :

  • smoke and fume extraction from stairways ;

  • smoke extraction from horizontal corridors ;

  • smoke extraction from premises accessible to the public.

This instruction does not exclude the possibility of adapting smoke control solutions to particular configurations or locations, provided equivalent results are obtained, and in particular :

  • satisfactory sweeping of the area concerned;

  • unhindered stratification and natural smoke movement.

Smoke extraction solutions must be compatible with each other.
