3.1 Installation on wooden battens

In most cases, flat clay tiles are laid on wooden battens, the characteristics of which are detailed in paragraph 2.1 of the fascicule. .

Note: as with other tile roofing processes, DTU 40.23 provides for the possibility of laying flat tiles on metal battens consisting of angle irons (cf. paragraph 2 of the fascicule ). In practice, this type of support is very rarely used for flat tiles.

The battens must rest on at least three supports in the running section and must be fastened with a point or staple at each intersection of a rafter and a batten. Stapling is only compatible with wood thicknesses of 25 mm or less.
