 INTRODUCTION

Asphalt shingle roofing is often used on roofs covered with wood decking, mainly chipboard, to reduce the impact weight on the structure. This type of roofing is widely used in mountain climates, along with metal sheet roofing. Another advantage of this type of roofing is that it is very economical and quick to install.

This article presents all the rules of the trade and technical codes concerning asphalt shingle roofing. These elements can be used to approximately date a structure according to the rules used at the time of construction and, if necessary, to determine a relative disorder:

  • roof design;

  • the nature of the support, attic ventilation conditions ;

  • installation conditions ;

  • ageing of materials, etc.
