2. Load-bearing elements

The term "load-bearing element" refers to the structure of the building which, through its mechanical strength, is able to support the various elements of the waterproofing complex, as well as non-permanent loads. The load-bearing element is sometimes confused with the substrate when it constitutes both elements at the same time, as in the case of a concrete slab directly receiving the waterproofing.

It's important to be familiar with the load-bearing element, its surface and any movements it may undergo, as the waterproofing covering laid over it will be subjected to these movements and the corresponding mechanical stresses.

Load-bearing elements can be made of masonry, reinforced concrete, prefabricated elements or aerated concrete.
