5. Conclusion

The physical characteristics of steel, such as color, density, melting point, thermal and electrical conductivity and dilatability, depend on its chemical composition and heat treatment. Although color is not a reliable indicator of physical properties, density is important, as it influences the density of steel and therefore its resistance to deformation. The melting point of steel varies from one type to another, and should not be confused with the liquefaction point. In general, the thermal and electrical conductivity of steel is relatively low compared to other metallic materials, but can vary considerably depending on the chemical composition and heat treatment of the steel. The dilatability of steel describes its capacity to expand or contract when subjected to temperature variations, and is expressed in terms of its coefficient of thermal expansion.
