This article explores the characteristics of steel in detail, with a focus on laboratory tests performed to evaluate them. A ubiquitous material in our daily lives, it is used in a wide variety of applications ranging from building structures to kitchen tools, to cars and airplanes. However, not all steels are identical, and they can vary considerably in terms of physical and mechanical properties. INTRODUCTION
Steels are highly versatile materials that can be classified according to a wide range of characteristics. Physical properties such as color, density, thermal or electrical conductivity and melting point can all be used to classify them. However, one of the most important properties to consider is corrosion resistance, particularly to atmospheric oxygen. Mechanical characteristics such as toughness, elasticity, malleability and ductility are also crucial in determining the dimensions and limits of use of parts subjected to stress and strain. These parameters are generally assessed through laboratory tests carried out under standardized conditions on specimens of standardized dimensions.
