 INTRODUCTION

A rotating electrical machine is subject to dissipation from a variety of sources. They are widely distributed in the machine structure and, more rarely, in the coolant itself (high-speed machines). The thermal dimensioning of an electrical machine, i.e. the calculation of the temperature field and the determination of heat dissipation paths, calls upon general laws and specific relationships that this article aims to summarize. Some thermophysical data concerning the materials and fluids encountered in this context are also provided. It should be noted that this article makes extensive use of references from Techniques de l'Ingénieur, specified in the text.
