3. Different ferroresonant regimes

3.1 Resonance

The term "resonance" appears in ferroresonance, so it's useful first to define the conditions under which resonance phenomena occur.

Resonances are periodic phenomena, whether sustained or not, which ultimately constitute alternating exchanges of reactive energy between magnetic and electric fields.

Analogies are often made between electrical resonances and mechanical resonances, where energy alternates between kinetic energy and potential energy. The phenomenon of resonance always results in significant oscillations of at least one voltage at a point on the network, necessarily located between an inductor and a capacitor.
