2. Real-life situations that can give rise to ferroresonance

Ferroresonance can occur in single-phase or polyphase circuits. The circuit configurations that give rise to it are fairly well known and listed at [5][22] . A distinction is made between "series" configurations, where a capacitor is in series between the non-linear element and the voltage source, and "parallel" configurations, where the capacitor involved in the ferroresonance phenomenon is in parallel with the non-linear element. The following are examples of ferroresonance that may occur on a power transmission or distribution network:

  • single-phase series circuit with voltage transformer ;

  • voltage transformer capacitor (TCT) ;

  • spur or antenna station on a double...
