 INTRODUCTION

This series of three articles deals with the design of high-power alternators. The first part [D 3 550] presents specifications and general sizing principles. The second part [D 3 551] puts these concepts into practice, presenting the limiting constraints for sizing a machine: rotor diameter, maximum mechanical forces, etc. It then presents an analysis of magnetic fluxes, associated with the choice of air gap. It concludes with a presentation of ampere-turn optimization, taking iron saturation into account.
