1.1 The Different Types of Permanent Magnets

Today, there are several families of materials that account for the vast majority of applications in the permanent magnet market [D 2 100] .

These families, in the order in which they appeared on the market, are: Alnico, hard ferrites, samarium-cobalt, neodymium-iron-boron, and samarium-iron-nitrogen.
