3. Design of electromechanical converters

Today's electromechanical designers have a wide range of methods and tools at their disposal to assist them in their work. Advances in numerical field calculation codes enable reliable simulation of the electromagnetic, mechanical or thermal behavior of two- or three-dimensional structures. Some of these codes can even take into account local coupling phenomena, as well as interactions between the electromechanical converter and its power supply and control stages. However, since they are largely geared towards "analyzing" the operation of given structures, they cannot, on their own, solve the "synthesis" problem that constitutes the design operation (a problem that consists precisely in determining the structural and material data that initiate the analysis process).
