2. Network constraints

The power grid is a key element between production and consumption. It is considered a critical infrastructure, since electricity is so essential, indeed vital, to our society. The cost of losing a network, or just a part of it, is considerable, and the burden of investment in networks is very heavy.

Given the widespread interconnection between countries, power grids represent the largest systems ever built by man. The introduction of a new device is studied very carefully, and its reliability must be very high in particular. Finally, it must be compatible with the operation of the current network, and in particular its protection plan.
