1. Principle and benefits of autopiloting

Traditionally, high-power machines have been the preserve of the power generation industry. These machines are generally connected to a fixed-frequency network, and the presence of dampers is sufficient to ensure their stability. They therefore do not require self-piloting [D 3 522] . In motor operation, where the installed power rarely exceeds a few tens of MW, variable speed and torque operation is, on the other hand, necessarily achieved by a power supply based on the principle of autopilot.
