8. Outlook: technological developments and associated services

The development of the IRVEs described above is the subject of a major innovation dynamic inherent in the breakthrough represented by the switch to electric vehicles, at the current stage of development. The future mobility landscape is unpredictable, ranging from the simple substitution of electric vehicles for combustion ones, to a radical change in travel practices and modes.

Whatever the case, the design and development of vehicles and their charging systems must both meet the future needs of users and respect the environmental goals that motivate them.

This section describes current research and development projects with immediate industrial applications, and analyzes more distant options based on future developments.
