4. Modeling electric resistance furnaces

Thermal exchange is a very frequent factor in industrial problems, since it arises as soon as we seek to produce, transform or transport energy. While we sometimes seek to better understand and control undesired thermal effects, we can also use thermal aspects to modify the behavior of certain materials (as in the case of heat treatment).

These days, equipment designers and design engineers have high hopes of using numerical simulations to gain a better grasp of problems relating to component service life and optimization. Indeed, once the numerical approach has been properly validated, it offers considerable flexibility for parametric studies, for example. In addition, modeling provides invaluable assistance in sizing and optimizing thermal processes.
