The power developed by a diesel engine depends on the mass of fuel and therefore the mass of air stored in the cylinder.
This air mass is a function :
intake air temperature ;
atmospheric pressure ;
the low-temperature water circuit cooling the charge air.
The power of a diesel engine is therefore determined by these parameters, variations in which can lead to downgrading.
The standard specifies the following reference conditions:
overall barometric pressure: 100 kPa ;
air temperature: 25 ×C ;
low water temperature: 25 ×C.
