2. Component performance and technological developments

2.1 Filtration

Air filtration upstream of the gas turbine is essential to maintain the internal cleanliness of the gas turbine and avoid either erosive ingestion of particles, or dust deposits that clog cooling circuits.

The choice of filters is important, as they can be costly either in terms of investment, or in terms of downtime to change them if they clog up too quickly. In accordance with standard NF EN 779, filters are classified into two categories, G for coarse particles and F for fine particles. Sub-categories distinguish filter performance, and manufacturers generally require filtration classes from F7 to F9, depending on site pollution.
