7.1 Earth faults in direct neutral to earth
Generally speaking, since most networks are overhead, capacitive currents can be neglected in comparison with the current flowing in the faulted feeder. If we were to take them into account, the calculation would be complicated: on the one hand, the capacitances are distributed, and on the other, the residual voltage varies along the line according to many factors, in particular the short-circuit power of the network and the impedances of the conductors up to the fault location.
