4. Conclusion

HVDC-VSC technology has been growing in popularity since the advent of modular MMC converters. These converters have the advantage of generating fewer losses than switched valve converters and can be easily adapted to different voltage levels. Thanks to their ability to independently control active and reactive power and participate in voltage waveform formation, VSC converters contribute to grid voltage regulation and stability, facilitating their integration compared to LCC-type converters.

An HVDC-VSC link can reverse the direction of power in a few hundred milliseconds without changing the polarity of the DC voltage. In addition, the ability of VSC converters to generate autonomous AC voltage makes them particularly suitable for connecting offshore wind farms and supplying isolated loads, such as oil platforms.
