1. CE marking and New Approach directives

The purpose of this section is to explain the CE marking of products and how the New Approach directives came into being. It deals with regulations in general, not just EMC, in order to understand where Directive 2014/30/EU fits into the CE marking process for equipment.

A little history

In 1945, in the aftermath of the Second World War, Europe was turned upside down. The ECSC (European Coal and Steel Community) was established in 1951 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris, to prevent a new war between France and Germany. Europe's first supranational community was born, involving six countries (France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands), for a period of 50 years.
