3. Applications

3.1 Radar imaging

Microwave holography is used in radar imaging to obtain detailed three-dimensional images of objects or structures, even when they are hidden beneath surfaces or vegetation that are opaque to visible light waves. This technique is based on the emission of electromagnetic waves in the microwave range, from a few GHz for the detection of objects buried in the ground, to THz for the screening of passengers and baggage at airports. The reflected signals are then captured and processed to reconstruct a holographic image of the area under study, or of the buried object.
