1. Simulation objectives

Numerical simulation is increasingly used in many areas of physics.

In mechanical engineering, it has proven its effectiveness in the prediction and optimization phase, right from the design stage before any prototype has been produced;

In the field of electromagnetics, which concerns us here, it is used to validate concepts to guide choices in the design phase, or to verify theoretical or experimental results on a given structure. In this case, the aim is to extrapolate from the validation of a reduced number of points, by comparing theory and experiment, to complete field mappings throughout the structure under study, and then to extract measurable physical observables such as potential differences, currents, etc.
