Next steps

Once the RPL protocol specification has been stabilized (the current version should be published as an IETF standard by mid-2011), further work awaits members of the roll group: RPL metrics need to be consolidated, as does the specification of security functions.

Evaluation of the first RPL implementations developed by the academic community has also been documented, and most Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) suppliers (Arch Rock, Atmel, Cisco, Jennic, Sensinode, SICS, Sigma Designs, Watteco) are actively contributing to the work of the roll group and to the promotion of the IPv6 protocol.

Finally, it's interesting to note that Google has recently joined the IPSO (IP for Smart Objects (IPSO)) alliance, which confirms, if confirmation were still needed, that IPv6 is the major asset for business development on the Internet, facilitating the deployment...
