3. Some current IEEE 802.11 subgroups

As mentioned in the introduction, the IEEE 802.11 working group is constantly evolving. There are still some fifteen sub-working groups in progress, or those which have just published the associated amendment. These sub-groups aim to improve 802.11 network performance or adapt it to specific usage contexts. This section describes the progress of some of these sub-working groups.

3.1 IEEE 802.11k: radio resource management

The aim of this sub-group is to improve the measurements made on radio resources, in order to facilitate the management and maintenance of 802.11 local wireless networks, and to improve the distribution of network traffic. The resulting amendment was published in June 2008.
