4. Preferences between several backup next-hops

In some network topologies, LFA and RLFA can find several next-hops to offer protection. RFC 5286 [ IETF 5286 ] defines criteria for selecting the next-hop to be used, e.g. choosing a next-hop offering protection against node failure, rather than a next-hop offering only protection against link failure.

Following the first (R)LFA deployments, it has become clear that this choice does not always correspond to what the network operator would like to do.
