7. SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for resource reservation in NGNs

SIP is an application-layer protocol for establishing, manipulating and closing sessions. SIP does not itself perform resource reservation or admission control, but reuses other protocols such as SDP, COPS (Common on Policy Service Protocol) and DIAMETER to maximize interoperability.
